Abstract

This article suggests that the use sodium and potassium bicarbonates are non-toxic primary alkalizing agents in the prevention and  treatment of all cancers, kidney disease, liver disease, Type I & Type II diabetes, Lupus, heart disease, Pharmacological toxicosis, vascular surgery operation, tonsillar herniation due to cerebral edema, lactic acid toxicosis, and hyponatremia or low salt or loss of salts due to excessive or over-exercise!

Introduction

Sodium and potassium bicarbonate are excellent agents for a natural alkaline approach in the treatment for all sickness and disease, including cancer. Sodium bicarbonate is the universal mainstream treatment of acidosis. It is used every day by oncologists to neutralize the heavy acidic nature of their chemical and chemotherapeutic agents which are often quite toxic. Sodium bicarbonate is also used routinely in many clinical situations as herein noted including many peer–reviewed journals:

Medics and emergency room medical doctors are accustomed to participating in a flurry of activity when trying to save a persons live after a cardiac arrest–inserting IVs and breathing tubes, performing defibrillation to restart the heart, etc. Sodium bicarbonate is a constant performer under such conditions and is more commonly used than magnesium injections, which is traditionally at the top of every doctor’s protocol for cardiac arrest.

Mainstream oncologists recognize the routine involvement of late stage infections which I refer to as outfections in all cancerous conditions. Medical savants also recognize that bacteria, yeast and mold is present in over forty percent of all cancerous conditions. (9) The most recent research in this area demonstrates how even viruses, which I describe as crystallized acid, is present in fifty percent of certain types of cancerous conditions. (10)

Sodium and potassium bicarbonate increases the hydroxyl ions or electron levels through increased alkalinity to the cells buffering the metabolic acids that can cause cancer.(20)  It is also one of the most basic medicines in allopathic and alternative medicine we have for the treatment of kidney disease.  Research by British scientists at the Royal London Hospital shows that sodium bicarbonate can dramatically slow the progress of chronic kidney disease.(11) We don’t need a thousand years of scientific tests to understand something as simple and essential as alkaline water and it is quite the same with sodium and potassium bicarbonate. Sodium and potassium bicarbonate are always present in the best alkaline drinking waters and organic raw green foods and is constantly being produced by the cover cells of the stomach to alkalize the acidic foods and liquids we ingest, including buffering metabolic and respiratory acids in order to maintain the alkaline design of the blood and tissues at a delicate pH of 7.365.(20)

What is Latent Tissue Acidosis?
Medical doctors are not taught in medical school and therefore do not understand or recognize latent tissue acidosis. They understand and recognize compensated acidosis and decompensated acidosis. In compensated acidosis, breathing increases in order to blow off more carbonic acid which decreases PCO2 because of the lowered carbonate or HCO3. When the breathing rate can no longer get any faster and when the kidneys can no longer increase its’ function to keep up with the acid load, then the blood pH starts to change from a pH of 7.365 to 7.3 then to 7.2. At a blood pH of 6.95 the heart relaxes and the client goes into a coma or dies.

Latent “acidosis” is a condition that exists when there are not enough bases in the alkalophile glands because they have been used up in the process of neutralizing the acids adsorbed to the collagen fibers. This leads to compensated “acidosis.” This means the blood pH has not changed but other body systems have changed. This can then lead to decompensated “acidosis” where the alkaline reserves of the blood are used up and the pH of the blood is altered. Decompensated “acidosis” can be determined by testing the blood pH, urine pH and the saliva pH. The decrease in the alkaline reserves in the body  can occur because of hyper-proteinization, (eating meat and cheese!) or too much protein, and hyper-carbonization, or too much sugar or from excessive or over-excercise. This is why young athletes fall over dead or why 80 to 90 year old folks are all shrunk up and look like prunes. They have very little or no alkaline reserves in their alkalophile glands. When all the alkaline minerals are gone, so are you and your battery runs out of charge. The charge of your cellular battery can be measured by testing the ORP or the oxidative reduction potential of the blood, urine or saliva using an ORP meter. As you become more acidic this energy potential or ORP increases.

How Is Sodium Bicarbonate Created In The Body?

The parietal or cover cells of the stomach split the sodium chloride of the blood. The sodium ion is used to bind with water and carbon dioxide to form the alkaline salt, sodium bicarbonate or NaHCO3. The biochemistry is: H20 + CO2 + NaCl = NaHCO3 + HCL. This is why I call the stomach an alkalizing organ NOT an organ of digestion. The stomach DOES NOT digest the food or liquids we ingest but it alkalizes the foods and liquids we ingest.  We have one instrument in the human body to digest food and it is NOT the stomach it is your teeth.  Once we swallow our food or drink the stomach begins to prepare the food by alkalizing it in a bath of sodium bicarbonate.

For each molecule of sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) made, a molecule of hydrochloric acid (HCL) is made and secreted into the so-called digestive system – specifically, the stomach (the gastric pits in the stomach) – to be eliminated via the blood. Therefore HCL is an acidic waste product of sodium bicarbonate created by the stomach to alkalize the food and liquids ingested.

Exercise Creates Metabolic Acidic Waste Products Which Are Harmful To The Blood and Tissues

When one exercises or over-exercises the body needs additional alkaline bicarbonate salts to buffer lactic acids.  The additional bicarbonate is created in the stomach lining to buffer the increased amounts of lactic acids produced as a waste product of metabolism.  The production of sodium bicarbonate will always leave an acidic waste product of hydrochloric acid in the gastric pits of the stomach leading to nausea, light headedness, dizziness, muddle thingking, and poor circulation.  If the excessive exercise continues this can then lead to a dificiency of mineral and bicarbonate salts (electrolytes lost through perspiration or urination) which may lead to latent tissue acidosis, pain, edema, hyponatrenia and death.

But how does something like sodium and/or potassium bicarbonate, so seemingly innocuous have such a dramatic effect? During prolonged or intense exercise muscles produce large amounts of acidic waste products, such as lactic acid, that lead to soreness, stiffness, fatigue and possible edema if these acids are not buffered and eliminated through urination or perspiration. Because sodium and potassium bicarbonate naturally reduces metabolic acids, it acts as a buffer against these performance-limiting by-products.

Current research suggests that supplemental sodium bicarbonate, like the pH Miracle pHour Salts (contains sodium and potassium bicarbonate) is particularly helpful in speed-based events, including sprints, football and other fast-moving games, and middle-distance (up to 10km) running, swimming and cycling. “Essentially, sodium bicarbonate is an alkaline substance that increases the pH of the blood,” Dr Folland says. “This seems to reduce and offset the acidity produced in the muscles during intense, anaerobic exercise that produces lactic acid most quickly, such as fast running or swimming.”

In Dr Folland’s study, swimmers who took the sodium bicarbonate knocked 1.5 seconds off their time for 200m, a difference that may seem insignificant to recreational swimmers but which is substantial at elite level.

“At the last Olympics, the top four swimmers in the men’s 200m freestyle were separated by just 1.4 seconds,” Dr Folland says. “So, in theory, it could be the difference between winning a medal and not.”

Anyone can try it, he says, but only those who are serious enough to monitor their times and progress in sports such as running, swimming or cycling may notice the few seconds advantage it might provide. “The increments of improvement are relatively small to the average person, although significant to someone who competes,” Dr Folland says.

Athletes for years have sworn that taking a spoonful of bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) helps them to keep going for longer. For years, experts doubted that there was anything other than a placebo effect to these claims until they subjected the substance to rigorous examination. Most exercise scientists investigating the trend for “soda-doping” among athletes and gym-goers have shown that it offers significant benefits for endurance and speed.”

At Loughborough University, for instance, physiologists reporting in the June issue of the International Journal of Sports Medicine showed that swimmers who took baking soda about one hour before a 200m event were able to shave a significant time off their usual performances. Dr Jonathan Folland, who led the study, says that it is not uncommon for top swimmers to take sodium bicarbonate (another name for the substance) before a competition to give them an edge. Indeed, he showed that of nine swimmers tested, eight recorded their fastest times after ingesting a supplement of the common baking ingredient – sodium bicarbonate.

Where are Bicarbonates Created In The Human Body and Why?

The chloride ion from the sodium chloride (salt) binds to an acid or proton forming HCL as a waste product of sodium bicarbonate production. HCL has a pH of 1 and is highly toxic to the blood and tissues and the cause of indigestion, acid reflux, ulcers, diabetes, cancer, hyponatremia, edema, tonsilar herniation and death.  When large amounts of acids, including HCL, enter the stomach from a rich animal protein or dairy product meal, such as meat and cheese, or from starchy foods from root vegetables like potatoes or during extreme exercise, acid is withdrawn from the acid-base household. The organism would die if the resulting alkalosis – or NaHCO3 (base flood) or base surplus – created by the stomach was not taken up by the alkalophile glands (salivary glands, pancreas, kidney, pylorus glands, Brunner’s glands, Lieberkuhn glands and liver) that need these quick bases in order to build up their strong sodium bicarbonate secretions. These alkalizing glands and organs are the stomach, pancreas, Brunner’s glands (between the pylorus and the junctions of the bile and pancreatic ducts), Lieberkuhn’s glands in the liver and its bile with its strong acid binding capabilities which it has to release on the highly acidic meat, cheese, potato, acid water or metabolic and/or respiratory acids from over-exercise to buffer its strong acids of nitric, sulphuric, phosphoric, uric and lactic acids in daily metabolism, respiration and excessive or over-exercise.

Bicarbonate acts to stimulate the ATPase by acting directly on it.(12)

The simple household product used for baking, cleaning, bee stings, treating asthma, cancer and acid indigestion is so effective in treating disease that it prevents patients from having to be put on kidney dialysis. The findings have been published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. Bicarbonate is a truly strong universal concentrated nutritional medicine that works effectively in many clinical situations that we would not normally think of. Bicarbonates of sodium and potassium are a prime emergency room and intensive care medicine that can save a person’s life in a heartbeat and it is also a supermarket item that you can take right off the shelf and use for more things than one can imagine – including diaper rash.

Dr. SK Hariachar, a nephrologist who oversees the Renal Hypertension Unit in Tampa, Florida stated, upon seeing the research on sodium bicarbonate and kidney disease, “I am glad to see confirmation of what we have known for so long.  I have been treating my patients with bicarbonate for many years in attempts to delay the need for dialysis, and now we finally have a legitimate study to back us up. Not only that, we have the added information that some people already on dialysis can reverse their condition with the use of sodium bicarbonate”.

A dialysis technician at the same center as Dr. Hariachar, who used to be on dialysis himself for 2 years as a result of kidney failure, had his kidneys miraculously start functioning to the point where dialysis was no longer needed. He states that he was prescribed oral doses of sodium bicarbonate throughout his treatment, and still takes it daily to prevent recurrences of kidney failure. Dr. Hariachar maintains though, that not everyone will be helped by taking bicarbonate. He says that those patients who have difficulty excreting acids, even with dialysis using a bicarbonate dialysate bath, that, “oral bicarbonate makes all the difference.”

The Stomach, Pancreas and Kidneys Naturally Produce Sodium Bicarbonate Every Day

The exocrine section of sodium bicarbonate from the stomach and the pancreas have been greatly ignored in the treatment of diabetes and cancer even though its impairment is a well documented condition. The stomach and the pancreas is primarily responsible for the production of sodium bicarbonate necessary for normal alkalization of food and liquids ingested. Sodium bicarbonate is so important for protecting the kidney’s that even the kidneys get into the act of producing sodium bicarbonate.  We now know the common denominator between hyponatremia, inflammation, edema, diabetes, kidney disease, and cancer is the lack of sodium and potassium bicarbonate or the body’s inability to produce sodium and potassium bicarbonate because of a lack of mineral salts in the diet. When the body is hit with reductions in sodium bicarbonate output by these three organs,’ acid conditions build up and then the entire body physiology begins to change from a state of oxygenation to fermentation. Likewise when acid build-up outstrips these organs normal sodium bicarbonate capacity, cellular, tissue, glandular and organ deterioration begins.

The stomach, pancreas and the kidneys alone produce about five hundred
grams (about one pound) of sodium and/or potassium bicarbonate per day in an attempt to neutralize dietary and/or metabolic acid in the blood and interstitial fluids that surround the body cells.

The stomach, pancreas and the kidneys monitor and control the acidity or “acid-base” (pH) balance of the blood and tissues. If the blood and tissues are too acidic, the stomach and/or the kidney’s make sodium bicarbonate to restore the blood and tissue pH back to a delicate pH balance of 7.365. If the blood or tissues are too alkaline, then the kidney excretes sodium bicarbonate into the urine to restore the 7.365 alkaline balance. Acid-base balance is the net result of two processes, first, the removal of sodium bicarbonate subsequent to hydrogen ion production from the metabolism or dietary constituents; second, the synthesis of “new” sodium bicarbonate by the stomach and/or the  kidney’s.(13)  The stomach and kidneys pull salt, water and carbon dioxide from the blood to make sodium bicarbonate to maintain the alkaline design of the body during all functions of the body from the ingestion of food or drink to exercise.  The chemical formula is as follows:  NaCl + H2O + CO2 = NaHCO3 + HCL.  The waste product of sodium bicarbonate is hydrochloric acid which is eliminated by kidneys as an acidic excretion of the urine.
It is considered that normal adults eating ordinary Western diets have chronic, low-grade acidosis which increases with age. This excess acid, or acidosis, is considered to contribute to many diseases and to contribute to the aging or rotting process. Acidosis occurs often when the body cannot produce enough sodium bicarbonate ions (or other alkaline compounds) to neutralize the acids in the body formed from metabolism and eating and drinking highly acid foods and drinks like chicken, pork, beef, dairy products, coffee, tea, alcohol, chocolate, soft drinks, just to name a few.  We are also testing bottled mineral water and finding that these waters are acidic and may contribute to overall tissue acidosis.
Acid-buffering by means of base supplementation (The pH Miracle pHour Salts) of sodium bicarbonate is one of the major roles of dialysis. Sodium bicarbonate concentration in the dialysate (solution containing water and chemicals (electrolytes) that passes through the artificial kidney to remove excess fluids and wastes from the blood, also called “bath.”) should be personalized in order to reach a midweek pre-dialysis serum sodium bicarbonate concentration of 22 mmol/l.(14)  Use of sodium bicarbonate in dialysate has been shown in studies to better control some metabolic aspects and to improve both treatment tolerance and patients’ life quality.  Sodium bicarbonate dialysis, unlike acetate-free biofiltration, triggers mediators of inflammation and apoptosis.(15)

One of the main reasons we become over-acid is from over-consumption of animal protein, dairy products, high sugar fruit, grains, alcohol, coffee, tea, chocolate, soft drinks and over-exercise or under-exercise. Eating meat and dairy products may increase the risk of prostate cancer, research suggests.(16) We would find the same for breast and other cancers as well metastatic cancers.(17) Conversely mineral deficiencies are another reason and when you combine high protein intake with decreasing intake of alkaline minerals you have a dis-ease in the making through lowering of pH into highly acidic conditions. When protein breaks down in our bodies they break into strong acids, such as, nitric, uric, sulphuric and phosphoric acid.

Unless a treatment actually removes acidic toxins  from the body and increases oxygen, water, and nutrients most medical interventions come to naught.

These metabolic and dietary acids must be excreted by the kidney’s because they contain sulfur, phosphorus, and/or nitrogen which cannot break down into water and carbon dioxide to be eliminated as weak acids. In their passage through the kidney’s these strong acids of ntric, sulphuric, phosphoric and uric acid must take a basic mineral with them because in this way they are converted into their neutral salts and don’t burn or destroy the kidney’s on their way out. This would happen if these strong acids were excreted in their free acidic form.

Sodium and potassoum bicarbonate ions neutralize the acids that cause chronic inflammatory reactions. Hence, sodium and potassium bicarbonate are of benefit in the treatment of a range of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Sodium and potassium bicarbonate are well-studied and used salts with known effects. Sodium and potassium bicarbonate are effective in treating poisonings or overdoses from many chemicals and pharmaceutical drugs by negating their cardiotoxic and neurotoxic effects.(19)  It is the main reason it is used by orthodox oncology – to mitigate the highly toxic effects of chemotherapy.

Sodium and potassium bicarbonates possess the property of absorbing heavy metals, dioxins and furans. Comparison of cancer tissue with
healthy tissue from the same person shows that the cancer tissue
has a much higher concentration of toxic chemicals, pesticides, etc.

Sodium and potassium bicarbonate intravenous infusions are indicated in the treatment of metabolic acidosis, which may occur in severe renal disease, uncontrolled diabetes, and circulatory insufficiency due to shock or severe dehydration, extracorporeal circulation of blood, cardiac arrest, tonsillar herniation due to cerebral edema, severe primary lactic acidosis and hyponatremia due to excessive or over-exercise.  During heavy exercise, if the the resulting lactic acid is not adsorbed by the collagen fibers, the specific acid catchers of the body, the blood pH will drop and the body will go into a coma and the person will die.

The total collection of these fibers is the largest organ of the body called SCHADE, the colloidal connective tissue organ. NO liquid exchange occurs between the blood and the parenchyma cells, or in reverse, unless it passes through this connective tissue organ. This organ connects and holds everything in our bodies in place. This organ is composed of ligaments, tendons, sinew, and the finer fibers that become the scaffolding that holds every single cell in our bodies in place. When acids are stored in this organ, which includes the muscles, inflammation or edema and pain develop. The production of lactic acid is increased with excessive exercise and the ingestion of milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, ice cream, high sugar fruit and starchy root vegetables like potatoes.

That is why I have stated, “acid is pain and pain is acid or acid is edema and edema is pain”.  You cannot have one without the other. This is the beginning of latent tissue acidosis leading to irritation, inflammation, edema and degeneration of the cells, tissues and organs and eventual or sudden death.  It is why we are seeing so many amateur and professional atheletes pass out and die on the playing fields.  Metabolic, respiratory and gastrointestinal acids can and do kill and death can be overted by simply maintaining the alkaline design of the body fluids with protective hydration of alkaine sodium bicarbonate fluids.

The acid/alkaline balance is one of the most overlooked aspects of diagnostic medicine. In general, the world population is heavily acidic, excepting alkalarian vegans (those who ingest raw, organic green fruit, vegetables, mineral salts, alkaline water and unsaturated seed and nut oils), and even their bodies have to face increasing levels of environmental toxic exposure, which may contribute to an acidic pH condition of the blood and then tissues.

With over 30 years of research and testing over 100,000 individual samples of blood and over 100,000 samples of urine and saliva, I have come to the conclusion that the human body is an acidic producing organism by function – yet, it is an alkaline organism by design. Eating animal protein, especially meat and cheese, sugar, fermented foods, starchy foods like potatoes, acidic water, alcohol, coffee, tea, chocolate,  and excessive exercise or under-exercise, obsessive behaviors, lack of rest, lack of sunshine, and emotional stress are deadly acidic lifestyle choices.

All enervation, under-performance, sensitivity, irritation, inflammation, edema, catarrh, induration, ulcerations, degeneration, aging and cancerous conditions are caused by a four letter word – ACID, which is an acronym which stands for:

A = acidic food and drink, attitudes and activities,
C = compromised internal acidic environment,
I = illness and dis-ease, and,
D = desire for more acidic foods, drinks, attitudes and activities, and the cycle repeats itself.[20]

We ingest acidic medicines to lessen the symptoms of our illness. We stimulate the body with unhealthy forms of energy providing quick, often temporary relief from our symptoms which begins the cycle all over again creating a very powerful pattern of poor health and dis-ease.

Conclusion

The pH Alkalizing Lifestyle and Diet is a low acid producing diet and lifestyle that focuses on the foundational principal that the body is alkaline by design and yet acidic by function. This makes this program the ultimate program for preventing and reversing aging and the onset of sickness and disease. Any type of exercise is important and good for your body because it causes YOU to sweat-out acidic metabolic, environmental, respiratory and dietary waste!   Here are just a few of the benefits of exercising and sweating on a daily basis!

If you improve your fitness level you will have more desire and energy for sexual activity.  If you are feeling tired all the time physical activity can also improve your energy levels and your look, which can have a positive effect on your sex life.  Current research indicates that exercise can prevent and/or reverse challenges with erectile dysfunction.[1] Daily exercise can also improve sexual arousal or libido for women. 2) EXERCISE WILL IMPROVE YOUR MOOD

A recommended minimum dose of daily physical activity for one-hour will keep you happy with improved circulation.  Daily exercise will remove all the unwanted symptoms of laziness and lost of interest in the basic desire to move the body and sweat.

The best method to control weight along with the diet is daily exercising and sweating.  I recommend all types of exercise but my favorites are low impact rebounding, yoga, jogging, hiking and tennis.  You can do any type of physical exercise you like because moving your body increases circulation, opens up the pores of the skin and releases metabolic and dietary acids via sweat.   Doing this daily will improve the quality and the quantity of your life by maintaining the alkaline design of the body fluids.  Finally, it will help you better control your weight by removing the acidic waste products in the fatty tissues that are making you fat. And as you are removing metabolic and dietary acids through the pores of the skin you are lowering your risk of all other dis-eases.

6) EXERCISE WILL BUILD MUSCLE MASS

Resistance training or static contraction exercising will help you build muscles.  This type of training or exercise causes blood to flow into the muscle that is being contracted.  When the blood pools into the muscle under stress or contraction from a weight you are holding the blood will then redifferentiate into new muscle cells.  When this happens the muscle gets stronger while getting bigger.  It is important to understand that you build muscle with blood and you build blood with chlorophyll, polyunsaturated oil, alkaline water and whole natural mineral salts.  The quality of the blood will determine the quality and health of the muscle cell all determined by what you eat and what you drink.  As you increase healthy and strong muscle mass with a plant-based diet you will also increase your metabolism. This type of exercise will increase your resting metabolic rate 24 hours after the training [16, 17,18] Finally, as you age the so-called natural process called sarcopenia occurs.  Sarcopenia means that the body is loosing muscle, after 25 years at a rate of 0.5 to 1%.  The lack of exercise can increase the risk of sarcopenia. 9) EXERCISE IS GREAT FOR A CHILDS MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH

Studies show that exercise improves behavorial patterns in children with ADHD or Autism.  Research has demonstrated that children who exercise can improve their focus and prevent distraction. This is of great help for these children because “inhibitory control” is the biggest problem they face.[23,24]  Studies have shown that exercise will improve body composition and where metabolic and dietary acids will be stored in the connective and fatty tissues.  After 9 months of research the authors found that children who exercise have improved fitness level and had less body fat (especially abdomen fat which can increase risk of liver, pancreas, colon and reproductive cancers). The children in the group that exercised had moderate physical activity 5 days a week for about 70 minutes. [25]

10) EXERCISE CAN IMPROVE BONE DENSITY AND PROTECT AGAINST OSTEOPOROSIS

The skeletal system serves as a support for the body organs, glands and tissues. It is very important to keep them alkaline so they can be healthy and strong.  Bones are constantly breaking down and rebuilding every day.  In fact you have a new skeletal system every 90 days.  Before the age of 30 the body regenerates the bone quickly.  When you reach peak bone mass (although this can vary from person to person), after 30 years of age, your body loses balance, and this leads to bone loss year after year by approximately 1% per year.[26,27]  This may lead to an  increase risk of osteoporosis if you are living an acidic sedentary lifestyle. [28] Women also have increased bone loss after menopause because the activity of the endocrine system decreases because of acidity caused by an acidic lifestyle and diet.  Resistance training ( lifting weights and statically holding the maximize weight for at least 30 seconds and then releasing the contraction) can prevent bone loss by causing red blood cells to flow to the contracted muscle and bone to build new healthy muscles and bones. [29]   Scientists in a recent study compared the bone density of college women  with different body weights and physical activity levels. They concluded that women who exercise have lower body weight and higher bone density.[30]

What types of exercises are good bone mineral density?

1) Aerobic and Resistive training.[31]

Aerobic and resistance training is good for healthy muscles and bones.[32,33] Scientist found that women between 25 and 50 years of age who rebound or hop at least 10 times twice a day, with 30 seconds between each hop, have increased bone density of the hip after 4 months.[34]

I have recommended for years low or no-impact alkalizing exercising on a whole body vibrational machine or a whole body rebounding apparatus to keep the bones and muscles strong, healthy and fit.   These types of exercise apparatuses will especially be good for your bones because it increase blood circulation to the bones and muscles [35] which can increase bone and muscle density. [36,37]

Resistance exercising should be done at least  2 to 3 times per week. Intensity—moderate to high.

Generally bicycling and swimming  are NOT usually consider exercises that can increase bone or muscle density.  Here is the study that shows that professional cyclists have lower bone density during this type of excercise.[38] Citation from this study also concludes:

In summary, cycling may not be as beneficial to bone health as running and other weight bearing activities. Cycling does not appear to be more detrimental to bone health than a sedentary lifestyle, and it is beneficial for cardiovascular health. It is unclear whether an inverse dose response relationship exists between optimal bone health and volume of cycling.” National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases also states that swimming is not the best type of excercise for improving bone density.[39] There is a study that shows that swimming is better than not exercising at all.[40] You can also see that this study made a systematic review of how swimming affects bone tissue.  The study concluded that swimming does NOT have negative effects on bone density.[41]

11) EXERCISE IMPROVES BREATHING AND LUNG HEALTH

Exercise can help strengthen the muscles that are responsible for opening the lungs so that oxygen can enter and eliminate the acid called carbon dioxide.[42] Exercising can also improve the efficiency with which oxygen enters the cells of the body. This is a  positive impact on your aerobic capacity.[43,44] You can also test the capacity of your lungs by running for 2 minutes  without catching your breath.  A fit and healthy  person with healthy lung capacity will be able to do this without stopping or catching his or her breath or feeling a tightness or pain in the throat.

12) EXERCISE IMPROVES MEMORY

Research shows that brain neurons (special type of cells), which help us to think,move, perform body functions and even improve memory are improved after just a TWO weeks of exercise.[45]

13) EXERCISE PREVENTS LOSS OF BRAIN TISSUE

Study, which used an MRI machine to measure the amount of brain tissue in adults 55 years and older,shows that physical activity reduces the risk of loss of brain tissue in areas that are intended for thinking and memory.[46,47]

14) EXERCISE PREVENTS DEMENTIA

There is also evidence that regular DAILY exercise during life can reduce risk of dementia.[48]

15) EXERCISE CAN PREVENT THE FLU OR THE COLD

The flu is simply the body removing the build-up of acidic metabolic and dietary acids through the pores of the increase by increasing body temperature.  To prevent the body heating up or inducing a fever you can exercise and sweat-out the accumulated excess acids.  You can also use hyperthermia by sitting in an infrared sauna for 30 minutes and sweating-out acidic waste.  This is a passive form of exercise and can be don on a daily basis.  Make sure you are drinking at least 1 liter of alkaline water for each one-hour of exercise or sauna.  It is vitally important to replace the fluids loss through the sweat via the pores of the skin.  Scientist recently found that  people who exercise regularly have 50% less chances to do a flu or cold than people who don’t exercise and sweat.[49]

Conclusion: There are many health, wellness and fitness benefits of daily alkalizing exercise so start exercising every day for at least one hour.  And remember this – if you don’t make time to exercise for one hour every day you will be forced to make time to die!

A Natural Healthy and Legal Way To Increase Blood Volume – Pass It Along To Lance

There were several questions that came to mind after watching the Oprah Winfrey and Lance Armstrong interview where Lance finally admitted to using EPO, human-growth hormone, testosterone and blood doping.

So What is Blood Doping?

Blood doping is an illicit method of improving athletic performance by artificially boosting the blood’s ability to carry and deliver more oxygen to the connective tissues, including the muscules.

In many cases, blood doping increases the red blood count and its main oxygen carrying molecule, hemoglobin.  So, increasing hemoglobin allows higher amounts of oxygen to reach and alkalize an athlete’s muscles.  This can improve stamina and performance, particularly in long-distance events, such as long-distance running and cycling.

Blood doping is banned by the International Olympic Committe and other sports organizations.

What Are Types of Blood Doping?

The three widely used types of blood doping are:

1) Blood transfusions
2) Injections of erythropoetin (EPO), and 
3) Injections of synthetic oxygen oxygen carriers.

Here are some more details about each of these types of blood doping:
Blood transfusions.  In normal medical practice, patients may undergo blood transfusions to replace blood lost due to injury, surgery or chemotherapy. Transfusions also are given to patients who suffer from low red blood cell counts caused by anemiakidney failure, cancer and chemotherapy treatments.
Illicit blood transfusions are used by athletes to boost athletic performance. There are two types.
Autologous transfusion. This involves a transfusion of the athlete’s own blood, which is drawn and then stored for future use.  Most commonly this involves the removal of two units (approximately 2 pints!) of the athletes blood several weeks prior to competition. The blood is then frozen until 1-2 days before the competition, when it is thawed and injected back into the athlete. This is known as autologous blood doping.
Homologous transfusion. In this type of transfusion, athletes use the blood of someone else with the same blood type and then injected straight into the athlete.
EPO Injections

EPO is a hormone produced by the kidney. It regulates the body’s production of red blood cells.  In medical practice, EPO injections are given to stimulate the production of red blood cells. For example, a synthetic EPO can be used to treat patients with anemia related to chronic or end-stage kidney disease or cancer and its treatment with chemotherapy.
Athletes using EPO do so to encourage their bodies to produce higher than normal amounts of red blood cells, hemoglobin and blood volume called hematocrit to enhance athletic performance.
Synthetic Oxygen Carriers 

These are chemicals that have the ability to carry oxygen. Two examples are:
  • HBOCs (hemoglobin-based oxygen carriers)
  • PFCs (perfluorocarbons)
Synthetic oxygen carriers have a legitimate medical use as emergency therapy. It is used when a patient needs a blood transfusion but:
  • human blood is not available
  • there is a high risk of blood out-fection (A blood outfection is when the blood is breaking down due to metabolic and/or dietary acids or from acidic drug use.)
  • there isn’t enough time to find the proper match of blood type
Athletes use synthetic oxygen carriers to achieve the same performance-enhancing effects of other types of blood doping: increased oxygen in the blood carried by the hemoglobin in red blood cells that helps reduce tissue acidosis in the connective tissues and muscles.  This results in reduced tissue or muscle breakdown and tissue acidosis that causes inflammation and pain.

So what could have Lance Armstrong done differently to achieve athletic superiority in his sport without drugs and blood fransfusions? And, how could have Lance Armstrong naturally increased his red blood cell count, hemaglobin and hematocrit and in turn increased his VO2 or oxygen volume to his connective tissues and muscles thus minimizing acid build-up and cellular breakdown, without taking hormones, steroids, EPO and blood transfusions known as blood doping?

The Truth About Alkalizing Your Blood

Dr. Ben Kim states: Is it true that the foods and beverages you consume cause your blood to become more alkaline or acidic? Contrary to popular hype, the answer is: not to any significant degree.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: The pH of blood and interstitial fluids are constantly being challenged with environmental, dietary, respiratory, and metabolic acids. The body deals with blood acids by eliminating these acids through the four channels of elimination (urination, perspiration, defecation and respiration) and the buffering of acids through the alkaline buffering system in order to maintain the delicate pH balance of the blood plasma and interstitial fluids at 7.365.

Dr. Kim Ben states: The pH of your blood is tightly regulated by a complex system of buffers that are continuously at work to maintain a range of 7.35 to 7.45, which is slightly more alkaline than pure water.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: The pH of your extracellular fluids, which includes the blood plasma and the interstitial fluids are kept at a very narrow range at 7.365 to 7.385. Any pH measurement of blood plasma in excess of 7.385 indicates a condition of compensated acidosis and any pH measurement of blood plasma or interstitial fluids below 7.365 indicates a condition of decompensated acidosis.

When the pH of the blood plasma increases above the 7.385 this is the result of the blood pushing environmental, dietary, respiratory and metabolic acids out into the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues of the schade as the blood is pulling alkaline mineral salts such as calcium ions from the bones or magnesium ions from the muscles to offset the increase of acids in the blood. It is always a sure sign that as the blood plasma is becoming more alkaline the interstitial fluids of  the colloidal connective tissues of the schade are becoming more acidic and this is the cause of ALL inflammatory and degenerative diseases.

When the body tissues, organs, cells, or the alkaline reserves (sodium, calcium, magnesium and potassium) become deficient in alkaline minerals the blood plasma pH will drop below the ideal 7.365 causing decompensated acidosis leading to hemolysis at a pH below 7.365 or a coma and/or death at a pH below 7.2.

Dr. Kim Ben states: If the pH of your blood falls below 7.35, the result is a condition called acidosis, a state that leads to central nervous system depression. Severe acidosis – where blood pH falls below 7.00 – can lead to a coma and even death.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: If pH of the blood plasma drops below 7.365 the result is called decompenated acidosis.  If the pH of the blood plasma stays at the ideal 7.365 this is called compensated acidosis. And if the pH of the blood plasma increases above the 7.365 this is called “latent tissue acidosis” in the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues of the schade.

The blood plasma pH always goes alkaline when the blood pushes out environmental, dietary, respiratory or metabolic acids out into the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues of the schade. These acids are always deposited into what I call the ‘acid catchers’ which are the connective tissues of the schade. This leads to what I call ‘latent tissue acidosis’.

As acids build-up in the colloidal connective tissues of the schade and if NOT eliminated by the lymphatic system and the out through the channels of elimination, including the skin, lungs, bowels or urine this will result in ALL the connective tissue diseases and degenerative diseases, including ALL cancerous conditions.

Dr. Kim Ben states: If the pH of your blood rises above 7.45, the result is alkalosis. Severe alkalosis can also lead to death, but through a different mechanism; alkalosis causes all of the nerves in your body to become hypersensitive and over-excitable, often resulting in muscle spasms, nervousness, and convulsions; it’s usually the convulsions that cause death in severe cases.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: If the blood plasma pH increases over 7.385 you are in a state of ‘latent tissue acidosis’ of the interstitial fluids on the colloidal connective tissue of the shade and a high risk for cancer. This is what I call the “tee-ter-totter effect”. The body is pulling alkaline minerals into the blood to compensate for an equal amount of acids being pushed out into the interstitial fluids of the connective tissues of the schade to keep the blood plasma in an alkaline state. The result is tissue acidosis which then leads to hypersensitivity and over-excitable nerves, muscle spasms, nervousness and convulsions that can lead to coma or even death.  All of these symptoms are NOT a result of too much base or alkalinity but the result of too much acid from the blood being deposited into the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues of the schade. The cause of ‘latent tissue acidosis’ is caused by an acidic lifestyle and dietary choices.

Dr. Kim Ben states: The bottom line is that if you’re breathing and going about your daily activities, your body is doing an adequate job of keeping your blood pH somewhere between 7.35 to 7.45, and the foods that you are eating are not causing any wild deviations of your blood pH.

Dr. Robert O. Young: The bottom line is when you understand that having an acidic lifestyle and diet does affect the blood plasma and interstitial fluid pH in a negative way.

The blood responds to increased acids from lifestyle and diet by pushing them out into the interstitial fluids of the connective tissues or the colloidal connective tissues of the schade. The foods you eat, the liquids you drink, the air you breath, even your thoughts will effect the pH of blood and then the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues. The blood is constantly responding to the acidic wastes of lifestyle and diet choices!!!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Kim Ben stated: So what’s up with all the hype about the need to alkalize your body? And what’s to be made of the claim that being too acidic can cause osteoporosis, kidney stones, and a number of other undesirable health challenges?

Dr. Robert O. Young states: The hype about alkalizing your blood and then interstitial fluids of the connective tissues is important because the human body is alkaline by design and acidic by function. This is the foundation for understanding the true cause of ALL sickness and disease.

Dr. Kim Ben states: As usual, the answers to such questions about human health can be found in understanding basic principles of human physiology. So let’s take a look at the fundamentals of pH and how your body regulates the acid-alkaline balance of its fluids on a moment-to-moment basis.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: The problems with current understanding of the basic principals of human physiology is the basic principals do NOT understand that the human body is alkaline by design and acidic by function. Current medical savants DO NOT understand that there is only one health, one sickness, one disease and one treatment. The one health is to maintain the alkaline design of the blood and interstitial fluids of the connective tissues with an alkaline lifestyle and diet. The one sickness and one disease is the over-acidification of the blood and then tissues due to an inverted way of living, eating and thinking. The one treatment is to restore the alkaline design of the body fluids with an alkaline lifestyle and diet. Remember the fish bowl metaphor? It goes like this – When the fish is sick what would you do? Treat the fish or change the water? Remember the fish is only as healthy as the water it swims in.

Dr. Kim Ben states: pH is a measure of how acidic or alkaline a liquid is. With respect to your health, the liquids involved are your body fluids, which can be categorized into two main groups:

  1. Intracellular fluid, is the fluid found in all of your cells. Intracellular fluid is often called cytosol, and makes up about two-thirds of the total amount of fluid in your body.

  2. Extracellular fluid, is the fluid found outside of your cells. Extracellular fluids are further classified as one of two types:

    • Plasma, which is fluid that makes up your blood.
    • Interstitial fluid, which occupies all of the spaces that surround your tissues. Interstitial fluid includes the fluids found in your eyes, lymphatic system, joints, nervous system, and between the protective membranes that surround your cardiovascular, respiratory, and abdominal cavities.

      Your blood (plasma) needs to maintain a pH of 7.35 to 7.45 for your cells to function properly. Why your cells require your blood to maintain a pH in this range to stay healthy is beyond the scope of this article, but the most important reason is that all of the proteins that work in your body have to maintain a specific geometric shape to function, and the three-dimensional shapes of the proteins in your body are affected by the tiniest changes in the pH of your body fluids.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: pH is a measurement of the concentrations of hydrogen and hydroxyl ions in a aqueous solution. Any aqueous solutions, including your blood plasma interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues of the schade (the largest organ of the human body) and the intracellular fluids that are saturated in hydrogen ions is less or more acidic and any aqueous solution that is saturated in hydroxyl ions is less or more base or alkaline.

Once again, the human body is alkaline in its design and acidic in its function. Your blood plasma and interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissue of the schade needs to be maintained at a delicate pH of 7.365 for your cells to function properly.

I have found in my own blood research that when your pH is stable at 7.365 you find healthy blood which is even in color, even in size and even in shape. The red blood cell is the primary stem cell which becomes all other body cells. And the health of the blood and the interstitial fluid of the colloidal connective tissues of the shcade is directly connected to the health of all body cells. It is blood that becomes, liver, heart, brain and skin cells. All red blood cells and then body cells are made up of microzymas.

Microzymas are the foundational, indestructable matter and intelligent matter that makes up all living cells, including the DNA. The tiniest changes in the pH of the body fluids can cause the microzymas in the red blood cells or body cells to change into bacteria, yeast and/or mold. This is how germs are created – from within NOT from without.

Dr. Kim Ben states: The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A liquid that has a pH of 7 is considered to be neutral (pure water is generally considered to have a neutral pH). Fluids that have a pH below 7 – like lemon juice and coffee – are considered to be acidic. And fluids that have a pH above 7 – like human blood and milk of magnesia – are considered to be alkaline.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14 with the pH of 7 being the midpoint (pure water may have a pH of 7 but I have found that the pH of pure water has a range of 6.2 to 7.2 – a 10 times exponential swing. I have also found that pure water has an oxidative reduction potential in a range of +50mV to +150mV) which will drain energy from the body. Lemon is an alkaline fruit not an acidic fruit. This is because of its low sugar and high alkaline mineral content of potassium bicarbonate. Lemons do not draw down on the alkaline buffering system and contributes in excess of 10 times in hydroxyl ions (OH-) in relationship to its hydrogen ion content.

Dr. Kim Ben states: It’s important to note that on the pH scale, each number represents a tenfold difference from adjacent numbers; in other words, a liquid that has a pH of 6 is ten times more acidic than a liquid that has a pH of 7, and a liquid with a pH of 5 is one hundred times more acidic than pure water.  Most carbonated soft drinks (pop) have a pH of about 3, making them about ten thousand times more acidic than pure water. Please remember this the next time you think about drinking a can of pop.

When you ingest foods and liquids, the end products of digestion and assimilation of nutrients often results in an acid or alkaline-forming effect – the end products are sometimes called acid ash or alkaline ash.

Dr. Robert O. Young states – All food and drink which has a pH of less than 8.4 will cause the production of sodium bicarbonate by the stomach and the release of this sodium bicarbonate via the salivary glands, the pylorus glands, the pancreas, gall bladder and intestinal glands to alkalize whatever ingested. The main purpose of stomach is to prepare the food in a liquid state at a pH of 8.4 for biological transformation into stem cells which takes place in the crypts of the small intestines.

Dr. Kim Ben states: Also, as your cells produce energy on a continual basis, a number of different acids are formed and released into your body fluids. These acids – generated by your everyday metabolic activities – are unavoidable; as long as your body has to generate energy to survive, it will produce a continuous supply of acids.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: Metabolism produces acidic waste products of lactic, uric, citric and glucose if not eliminated will cause dis-ease and then disease. You are only as healthy as the alkaline fluids of the body which includes the extracellular and intracellular fluids.

Dr. Kim Ben states: So there are two main forces at work on a daily basis that can disrupt the pH of your body fluids – these forces are the acid or alkaline-forming effects of foods and liquids that you ingest, and the acids that you generate through regular metabolic activities. Fortunately, your body has three major mechanisms at work at all times to prevent these forces from shifting the pH of your blood outside of the 7.35 to 7.45 range.

Dr. Robert O. Young states: There are seven main sources at work on a daily basis that can disrupt the pH of your body fluids – these forces include acids from the external environment, acids from the foods and liquids ingested, acids from the air you breath, acids from metabolism, acids from cells breaking down or catobolic acitivity, acids from endogenous bacteria, yeast and mold, and acids from respiration. Your body has an elaborate alkalizing buffering system at work at all times to help prevent through chelaton these forces from shifting the pH of the blood plasma pH as well as the interstitial fluid pH at a delicate pH of 7.365. It is important to note that when the alkaline buffering system (a new organ discovered by Dr. Robert O. Young) becomes depleted and acids are being deposited into the interstitial fluids of the colloidal connective tissues and the fatty tissues this is when dis-ease and eventual disease manifests.

Dr. Kim Ben states:

These mechanisms are:

  1. Buffer Systems

    • Carbonic Acid-Bicarbonate Buffer System
    • Protein Buffer System
    • Phosphate Buffer System
  2. Exhalation of Carbon Dioxide
  3. Elimination of Hydrogen Ions via Kidneys
 
Dr. Robert O. Young states: There are ten (10) mechanisms that the body engages to buffer excess acids from lifestyle and dietary choices that are NOT properly eliminated through the four channels of elimination (bowels, kidney, skin and lungs):
1) The sodium bicarbonate system – the main organ of production is the stomach. The stomach is the major organ for sodium bicarbonate production for alkalizing food and maintaining the alkaline pH of the blood, tissues and organs.
2) The hemoglobin buffering system – the hemoglobin is a secondary alkalizing buffer for the blood when there is insufficient elements for the production of the primary buffer, sodium bicarbonate. This is the main cause of ALL blood diseases and why most all the client/patients I see have to a lesser or greater degree anemic and unhealthy blood.
3) The pHosphate buffering system which buffers acids creating phosphoric acid which is then excreted via the urine.
4) The ammonia buffering system reacts with hydrogen ions or acids to form ammonium ions which are excreted into the urine.
5) The plasma protein buffering system helps to chelate acids. The most plentiful type of buffer in the body including glutathione, methionine, cysteine and taurine which are found in the cells, lymph fluid and plasma.  Most plasma protein activity occurs intracellularly to bind or neutralize acids during cellular metabolism and/or disorganization or transformation of the human cell.
6) The electrolyte buffering system which includes the alkalizing mineral salts of sodium, magnesium, potassium and calcium. The chelation of any acid will form a less toxic solid or a stone in the body. All stones and cysts and tumors are the result of excess acids in the extra and intracellular fluids. The electrolyte or mineral buffers work in the blood, lymph, extracellular (blood plasma and interstitial fluids) and intracellular fluids to bind acids which are then removed via the urine. These four elements are recycled by the kidneys into the blood and lymph by binding them to CO2. Over 90 percent of the CO2 produced in the body through cellular fermentation in the production of energy is used to carry out this recycling process.
7) The low density lipo-protein buffering system also referred to as cholesterol works primarily as a binder of acids in the blood, lymph, and extracellular fluids which are then excreted via the urine. If elimination is compromised the fat bound acids are removed away from the organs that sustain life into the body cavities, hips, thighs, buttocks and abdominal area. This is the cause of over-weight and obesity.
8) The endocrine buffering system releases hormones to buffer acids. These hormones include the antidiuretic hormone which regulates the rate at which water is lost or retained by the body and aldosterone which regulates the level of sodium ions and potassium ions in the blood. These two alkaline secretions help the kidneys maintain the alkaline design of the body and reduce excess acidity thus creating pH balance in the body.
9) The release of free radicals or reduced hydrogen (OH- and SO-) by the lymphocytes to buffer excess acids in the blood, interstitial and intracellular fluids.
10) The retention of alkaline water to buffer excess acids in the colloidal connective tissues of the schade. This is the cause of edema or water retention.
Dr. Kim Ben states: It’s not in the scope of this post to discuss the mechanisms listed above in detail. For this article, I only want to point out that these systems are in place to prevent dietary, metabolic, and other factors from pushing the pH of your blood outside of the 7.35 to 7.45 range.
Dr. Robert O. Young states: The blood can be stressed from dietary and metabolic acids which are eliminated through the four channels of elimination or buffered by the ten alkalizing buffering mechanisms to maintain the delicate blood plasma, interstitial and intracellular pH at a healthy 7.365.

Dr. Kim Ben states: When people encourage you to “alkalize your blood,” most of them mean that you should eat plenty of foods that have an alkaline-forming effect on your system. The reason for making this suggestion is that the vast majority of highly processed foods – like white flour products and white sugar – have an acid-forming effect on your system, and if you spend years eating a poor diet that is mainly acid-forming, you will overwork some of the buffering systems mentioned above to a point where you could create undesirable changes in your health.

Dr. Robert O. Young states; Everything you eat, everything you drink, everything you breath, everything you think and everything you do affects the blood and interstitial fluids in an acidic way to a lesser or greater degree. That is why we age. We do not get old we mold from years of acidic lifestyle and dietary choices. The key to a healthy life or a life of sickness and disease and then eventual death is in the blood! Especially the blood plasma.

Dr. Kim Ben states: For example, your phosphate buffer system uses different phosphate ions in your body to neutralize strong acids and bases. About 85% of the phosphate ions that are used in your phosphate buffer system comes from calcium phosphate salts, which are structural components of your bones and teeth. If your body fluids are regularly exposed to large quantities of acid-forming foods and liquids, your body will draw upon its calcium phosphate reserves to supply your phosphate buffer system to neutralize the acid-forming effects of your diet. Over time, this may lead to structural weakness in your bones and teeth.
